This ecoregion is located on the perimeter of Lake Melville. It has humid, cool summers and cold winters.

The Smallwood Reservoir/ Michikamau ecoregion can be divided into two sections in Labrador.

This ecoregion extends northeast from Winokapau Lake and borders the western extensions of the Lake Melville ecoregion.
