Rev. H. W. Facey

Reverend Hugh William Facey, born in New Harbour on March 24, 1882, was the son of Robert William Facey, a schoolmaster, and Caroline Facey. Hugh had six siblings, including Rev. Nicholas S. Facey, who was also a priest. Rev. H. W. Facey held several titles throughout his life, including reverend canon, pastor of All Saints Parish and St. Peter’s Parish (1919–1927), diocesan missioner, clerk in holy orders, and incumbent of the mission of Smith’s Sound. He was also on the Church of England College’s Board of Directors. On June 16, 1918, he opened St. Aidan’s Anglican Church in Port Blandford alongside Rev. Augustus Bagley. Hugh was married to Edith Mary, a recipient of the Medal of British Excellence in the Civil Division. Together they had six sons and one daughter. Hugh died in 1964. His name is written on a few texts in the Queen Elizabeth II Library.
