William Epps Cormack, 1796-1868
Born in St. John's but raised in Scotland, explorer William Cormack trekked across Newfoundland in 1822 and provided the first accurate description of the island's interior. Cormack also founded the Boeothick Institution in 1827 and did much to preserve valuable information about Beothuk culture and society.
