In 1982, Liberal Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau amended the Canadian constitution with support from every province except Québec. After the Progressive Conservatives won a federal election in 1984, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney reopened negotiations. Talks resulted in the creation of the Meech Lake Accord on 30 April 1987.
