Bonavista Cottage Hospital, ca. 1947
The Commission of Government established a series of government-subsidized cottage hospitals to help make affordable medical services accessible to rural communities in Newfoundland and Labrador. A typical cottage hospital employed one or two physicians, a small staff of nurses, and had a bed capacity of between 10 and 30.
