Arthur Holdsworth (1668-1726), fishing admiral
Fishing admirals governed British citizens at Newfoundland and Labrador until 1729. Each spring, the master of the first ship to enter a Newfoundland and Labrador harbour became the highest-ranking English authority, or admiral, of that harbour for the season. Arthur Holdsworth served as fishing admiral of St. John's harbour in 1700.
