Loading Bell Island iron ore, ca. 1930
An unidentified vessel docked at Scotia Pier accepts a shipment of iron ore from the Bell Island mine. The mine, which exported large quantities of iron ore to Germany during the 1920s, was one of the few bright spots in Newfoundland and Labrador's struggling economy during the years leading up to the Great Depression.
