Map of Shipwreck Camp, ca. 1914-1916
After the Karluk sank on 11 January 1914, its crew and passengers lived in igloos on the Arctic ice for more than a month before travelling to Wrangel Island in late February. Newfoundland and Labrador Captain Bob Bartlett named the site Shipwreck Camp.
