View from a sledge, ca. 1908-09
On 18 March 1914, Newfoundland and Labrador Captain Bob Bartlett and Inuit hunter Kataktovick departed Wrangel Island to seek help for the Karluk castaways. The two men travelled by dog sledge and completed a perilous 700-mile journey to the Bering Strait by the end of April.
