Bob Bartlett, pre-1929
Newfoundland and Labrador Captain Bob Bartlett visited the Arctic for the first time in 1898 as part of explorer Robert Peary's North Pole expedition. By 1909, Bartlett had accompanied Peary on three separate attempts to reach the North Pole, first aboard the
Windward (1898-1902), and twice as captain of the
Roosevelt (1906-07 and 1908-09).
