Ice Cover Frequency 1964-1968.
The above chart shows the frequency which ice covered the waters around Newfoundland
and Labrador over a 5 year period. "Years 1" means that ice covered the waters,
marked in light blue on the various maps, for only one of the five years. "Years 2"
means that ice covered the waters, marked in a slightly darker blue, during two of
the five years, etc. Except where ice formed in all five years, the chart does not
inform us in what years the ice was present. For example, that it was present for
one year only, does not mean that it occurred in 1964, or for that matter, that it
occurred in all areas of Newfoundland and Labrador in the same year.
