collector n A vessel which sails from one coastal settlement or fishing station
to another to take aboard the catch for shipment to a larger centre; also attrib;
COLLECTING BOAT. 1909 BROWNE 292 [A boat from Long Tickle
arrived.] The boat was a decked sloop, the collector of the 'Room' at Long Tickle.
1953 Nfld Fish Develop Report 87 The [salmon] catch is now generally sold by the
fishermen in the dressed form, i.e. with gut and head removed, directly to
collector-boats which call at the fishermen's premises daily and bring the fish to
