organist is mostly a native and the native 'chapel-servant' frequently leads the service
and can invariably preach and pray with fluency. 1966 BEN-DOR 88 This governing body in
each of the Moravian Mission posts is composed of the missionary, and the so-called
'chapel servants' and 'elders.' A chapel servant, 'Kixak,' is appointed by the missionary
and installed in a public service. P 204-73 Male chapel servants acted as lay readers,
and were responsible for the physical structure of the church. Female chapel servants
oversaw and arranged for the cleaning of the church, care of the church silverware,
drapes, and clergy gowns.
