   Comb danger bell: ship's bell rung as warning at night or in fog.
   [1822] 1891 SKINNER 55 We could carry but little sail [in the dense fog], and had to keep the danger bell going continually to prevent, if possible, our being run into. Q 71-7 ~ bell rung on a boat when out in fog as thick as pea soup. The danger bell serves as a warning for other boats in the area to avoid a collision.
