Evening Telegram 13 Dec, p. 3 Since I wrote last on this book I have been what
people calls cruising about here. I have been visiting some of my friends, all though
scattered far apart,:with my snow-shoes on and axe on my shoulders. The nearest house to
this place is about 5 miles up a beautiful river. 1910 GRENFELL 198 Cruising [by
dog-team] can be carried on in perfect safety, and one can cover hundreds of miles
without ever seeing the open water at all, as the outlying islands are so numerous.
[1915] GORDON 18 Visiting friends and relatives en masse was, I found, a common practice
on the part of some of the Labrador people. They called it 'cruising,' and as they had
very few other forms of recreation, one could quite understand its popularity.
