We Newfoundlanders can't afford NOT to choose Canada. We've always had a
low standard of living. Our country's bills keep piling up to run our
schools and hospitals and ports. We haven't the money to pay our bills,
so our government always has to borrow. Things will be different with
Confederation.
Canada will take over our debt, and take over paying for ferries, railways,
and ports and such. We can't afford to pay our bills, but Canada can and Canada
will.
Whoever says Canada is a foreign land of strangers should remember this-we
have lots of ties with Canada. Why, in our family, there are as many aunts
and uncles and cousins living in Toronto as there are here in Newfoundland.
They had to move away to Toronto to find work and a better life than our
island could provide. Confederation will change all that. There will be
more jobs for Newfoundlanders, and a higher standard of living. Of course
I choose Canada.
