I know why I favour Confederation. It's plain and simple-jobs. We've never
had enough jobs in Newfoundland-never. Throughout our history we've always
lacked enough jobs and that means we've always been short of money. Always.
Most of us know what it's like not to be able to buy enough food for our
families or decent clothing or proper shoes and boots. We all know of
children who can't go to school because they have no shoes to wear. That
is just not right. Confederation will put a stop to it.
If we join Canada, there'll be lots of jobs with good pay. Jobs for ferry
workers, lighthousekeepers, postal workers, civil servants, even police
officers in the R.C.M.P. Jobs and paycheques and food on the table and
clothes on our backs. We must join Canada and put Newfoundlanders to work.
