Guest Book Entries January - December 1999
We were in your quaint little town this summer of 1999 and enjoyed the tour with our delightful guide "Christene Kenny". Thanks! You made our tour delightful and very interesting; (we liked the story about the ring you found). When we get our videos edited we will send you a copy. All the artifacts were very interesting. We would recomend the visit to anyone. Keep up the good work. We were in your quaint little town this summer of 1999 and enjoyed the tour with our delightful guide "Christene Kenny". Thanks! We are members of a 16th/17th century "living history" group, and so the artifacts and archaeology of Avalon are of particular interest to us! This is a marvellous website, and we check it regularly. We look forward to visiting Newfoundland again someday! I especially love the virtual tour once I finally found the RealPlayer button--it's a little obscured in the reddish-brown ground. Overall, a fantastic job. Cheers, Mary B. The text, photography and links are outstanding. We enjoyed visiting Ferryland site in 1997 when we visited Newfoundland for the Cabot 500 anniversary. We are excited about the possibility of our Kirk connection genealogy. The list of names have given us more information and clues to link the Kirkes in England to our Virginia and North Carolina Kirks. We are very appreciative of all the hard work that all of you have done. Especially Peter Pope and Jim Tuck. We were forunate to be able to meet Dr. Tuck when we were there. We are still looking forward to seeing Dr. Pope's work in a book form. It is amazing that so much can be learned of people, etc. from over 400 years ago! We do plan to visit Newfoundland again. We enjoyed our first trip there so much. We will see you again. Canada - Saturday, August 14, 1999 at 16:49:00 (NDT) Remote Host: 216.58.9.47 - Remote IP Address: 216.58.9.47 I came across your web site after returning to BC from a trip to Newfoundland, and more specifically, the Colony of Avalon. Newfoundland is more beautiful than I had ever imagined it would be, and its people serve as an excellent example of hospitality and warmth for the rest of Canadians. I cannot think of who specifically to thank for its majestic beauty and fine people - maybe God. But I do know who to thank for my wonderful experience at the Colony - the tour guide that took us through the archaeological site... I remember her as Cristine. She had a high level of knowledge about the Colony's history and treated my family and the rest of the visitors with respect and courtesy. She also had an excellent sense of humour, which in the summer heat is very welcome by us sometimes-impatient tourists. Although my family only had a chance to interact with the one tour guide, from what I could tell by those working at the Colony on the day that we visited, your staff is very conscious of the service needs of visitors to the Colony. Thank you for helping to make our trip to Newfoundland so worthwhile and fun. M. I was amazed at the excellent service I received from all of the employees of the Colony, particulary that from a woman named Christine Kenny. Christine gave us an informative tour of the archaeological site and I must say that I have never received such kind and personalised service anywhere. I have taken many tours of archaeological sites throughout the world (i.e. Tanzania, India, Mexico, France) and usually I encounter tour guides who speak about the artifacts through memory and move the tourists through the site as if they're working an assembly line. Christine knew very well what she was talking about and had a genuine interest in the history of the Colony. Furthermore, I was treated with great kindness and respect - I didn't feel like a tourist but a guest. Please deliver my sentiments to Christine and continue the excellent service you provide. I am a former Newfoundlander just recently moved to Vancouver. I visited the site in Ferryland prior to my leaving the Island but the day was rainy and windy so I didn't get to see much. This site is so good. I especially like the log of the artifacts found there. I definitely have to go back and check out the site again when I get back to Newfoundland for a visit. Keep up the great work. Look forward to more in the future.
