An account of Captain William Holman's charge in Defending the Harbour of Ferryland in the Newfoundland against the French, the first of August 1694:

For 15 barrels of powder bought in Newfoundland to supply that which I used in Fight... at £7 per Barrell

To 2000 [lbs] of great shot, likewise bought in Newfoundland at 24s per 100 } 024: 00: 00
To 200 [lbs] of small shot at 24s per 100 } 002: 08: 00
To 1025 [lbs] of spikes and nails used in building forts at £2 7s per 100 } 024: 01: 09
To plank and timber to build the forts and platforms } 037: 09: 00
To workmen for building said forts and platforms } 094: 00: 00
To 3 guns sunk in the harbour bringing on board my ship after the fight which weighed 1300 [lbs] each, at 24s per 100 } 046: 16: 00
To 300 quintals of [cod] fish, lost upon the flakes, which I was forced to neglect turning to attend building the forts } 150: 00: 00
