Innu making canoes near Sheshatshiu, ca. 1920
Twentieth-century industrial and military developments dramatically changed Innu society and lands. These included low-level military flight training over Innu hunting grounds, the Voisey's Bay nickel mine, and the Upper Churchill Falls hydroelectric project, which flooded more than 1,300 km² of land in central Labrador, including Innu campsites, graveyards, and hunting grounds.
