Notes v, 343 ~ The upper leather of a shoe. 1927 Christmas Messenger 48 [When
a fisherman] says 'I bought a fine "Strad" at Bowring's,' he means a well-selected cut of
calfskin leather to make a pair of long boots. M 71-120 [Sheep] were marked. Some people
put tickets around their sheep's neck. These tickets were made from 'strad' or calf-skin
leather. The family name would be on those tickets.
