1957 Beaver Autumn, p. 29 An old
fir-tree, with resin clotted on the bark, is often called a 'snotty-var.' P 148-61 In
those places they burn snotty var. P 148-65 Snotty var is too greasy to be good for
cutting for winter fuel. All the sap comes out. C 70-15 Fir wood was coated with
turpentine and was usually called snotty var because it was sticky.
