   1964 SCOTT & CROSSMAN 86 Until 1962, a freshwater capture of tomcod had been reported only once from Newfoundland... Jeffers also noted that the fish (locally called 'snig') was abundant during the winter in Pistolet Bay.

   M 71-97 Each person had a snig-stick, a narrow stick about three feet long and pointed at one end. A gooster was set up and a 'catball' was made. The catball was laid across the 'gooster,' the 'snig stick' placed under it and it was thrown as far as possible. The persons on the other team would be placed anywhere from thirty to one hundred feet out away from the 'gooster.' They had to try and hit the catball and drive it back in as close to the 'gooster' as possible.
