shroud n, usu pl also shrouder. Cp OED shroud 'part of the
standing rigging of a ship,' and STROUTER. One of the vertical poles fixed to side of a
fishing stage or wharf.
P 37 Shrouders. Bars on the side of a
wharf by means of which one can climb up. P 195-67 ~ s. Sticks placed at an angle from
the floor of the ocean to the top of the stage head on which were fastened horizontal
sticks to enable men to climb from the boat to the stage. 1979 TIZZARD 92-3 Railings were
nailed across the shroudersupright posts at the head of the wharf.
