BUTLER 60 The men were kept busy all winter long using a pit saw to saw logs. Those two
men were considered principal men. They were called sawyers. A pit saw was six to seven
feet long with a stationary handle on the top end and a handle called a saw box that
could be detached from the lower end of the saw.
