"Old Glory Hole," the first mine workings, is located in the foreground. The headframe
refers to the structure over the mine shaft that supports the hoisting equipment.
"Glory Hole" is a name given to a particular kind of ore body. The ore deposit is
mined by a drilling and blasting method which causes the
ore to collapse into a pit, from which it is relatively easily accessible.
"Glory Hole" ore is usually more pure and concentrated than ordinary ore
bodies.
