Let's Teach About Women Project Management Committee
Project: Let's Teach About Women: The Women's Movement in Newfoundland and Labrador from 1970 to 1989

The goal of the Let's Teach About Women Project is to enhance young people's knowledge and understanding of the Women's Movement in Newfoundland and Labrador, with an emphasis on events following the Royal Commission on the Status of Women report in 1970.

Why is it needed?

Many young people are unaware that they are benefiting from dramatic changes to the status of women that have occurred only in the last thirty years. We need to teach them how women fought for and achieved rights we now take for granted – such as the right to sit on juries, be included in the Charter of Rights, and have an equal share of matrimonial property. By doing so, we can show them how social injustices can be changed and prepare them to fight against the inequalities they encounter in today's world.

Who is involved?

This project is driven by a Project Management Committee made up of long-time feminists who are committed to women's equality and social justice. Financial assistance for this project has been provided by the Women's Program, Status of Women Canada.
