The Department of Education, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador
Project: The Confederation Debate: 50 Years and Counting

The mandate of the Department of Education is to develop and maintain a provincial system of education which encourages all students to develop their full potential as individuals and as members of society. The Division of Program Development supports this mandate by developing new curricula, obtaining learning resources which support them, and determining their effectiveness in the classroom.

As a partner in the Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage Project, the Division provided curriculum consultation to help ensure that the unit of study, The Confederation Debate: 50 Years and Counting, was consistent with the Confederation theme articulated in the Canadian History 1201 course.

This portion of the site debuted in high schools between April and June 1999 as part of the Canadian History 1201 course.
