The Descent of the French on St. John's, 1762.
Artist unknown. The engraving bears the inscription, "at Bassets Rue St. Jacques, Paris." In June 1762, during the Seven Years War, the French captured St. John's. It was retaken by William Amherst for England in September of that year. The battle depicted here is probably fanciful.
