Lundrigan Case Judgement, Primary Document

Lundrigan Judgement
The judgment of the Surrogate Court at Harbour Grace in May 1819 in Lundrigan's Case. As Lundrigan did not appear, judgment was by default. Hollohan was Lundrigan's fishing partner. Execution against the property was unsuccessful in 1819. The following year Lundrigan was again summoned to appear. He refused and was subsequently charged with contempt. After a summary hearing, he was sentenced to 36 lashes on the bare back by the presiding surrogates, Reverend John Leigh and Captain David Buchan.
