Pierce Woodland, Royal Navy, ca. 1940s
Pierce Woodland was one of approximately 3,232 recruits from Newfoundland and Labrador to join the Royal Navy during the Second World War. By the time hostilities ended, the Royal Navy had recruited more volunteers from Newfoundland and Labrador than any other single branch of the Armed Forces.
