Dog sledge, ca. 1908-09
Members of Robert Peary's three North Pole expeditions used dog sledges to travel across hundreds of miles of Arctic ice. Teams of between eight and 12 dogs pulled the sledges, which measured up to 13 feet long and could carry a maximum of 1,200 pounds.
