Christopher Pratt
Young Girl with Seashells
1965,
Oil on Masonite,
73.3 x 46.3 cm
|
This 1965 oil painting is unusual in that people rarely appear in Christopher Pratt's paintings or prints, although he has done many figurative pencil drawings. Here, a young girl is coming through a doorway, into a house near the sea. She is carrying some seashells in the skirt of her school uniform; she is looking down at them rather than out towards the viewer. The strong vertical and horizontal composition of this painting is characteristic of Pratt's work, and the soft colours contribute to an atmosphere of youth and summertime. © 1998 AGNL. |
